STEPS FOR CITING YOUR SOURCES

Below are steps and tips for citing your sources.

STEP 1: USE ZOTEROBIB

ZoteroBib is an easy to use tool; see information below. If you have trouble rendering anything using Zoterobib, go to step 2 and use the style guide there.

Access:

The .gif demo below to see ZoteroBib's capabilities. For this class, select the American Chemical Society style.  For more details, watch the Youtube videos  immediately below it and read ZoteroBib's documentation.

STEP 2: CHECK RESULTS FROM STEP 1 AGAINST A STYLE GUIDE

Check the results generated in STEP 1 against the examples in the first guide below.

Let's say you need to cite this article in ACS style.

The ACS guide above (first link) says to cite this article as follows:

Foster, J. C.; Varlas, S.; Couturaud, B.; Coe, J.; O’Reilly, R. K. Getting into Shape: Reflections on a New Generation of Cylindrical Nanostructures’ Self-Assembly Using Polymer Building Block. J. Am. Chem. Soc. 2019, 141 (7), 2742−2753. DOI: 10.1021/jacs.8b08648

Compare the article to the citation to get a feel for how  to create a citation for a journal article that you chose.

The citation elements are, in order: authors, title of the article, abbreviation of the journal title, year, volume of the journal, issue of the journal, pages, and then DOI. A DOI is a unique identifier for the article; to find the article, you can look up the DOI in google.
