(Note: A DOI, as referenced in the Dalhousie Document, is a unique identifier for a journal article. See here for information.)

EXAMPLE OF HOW TO PUT A JOURNAL ARTICLE INTO THE CSE STYLE

Consider this article, suggested as relevant to one of the datasets.

On the upper right of the link, you see this information.

The Mating of a Fly

Jeffrey C. Hall

Science

New Series, Vol. 264, No. 5166 (Jun. 17, 1994), pp. 1702-1714 (13 pages)

The Dalhousie University guide above suggests the following format:

Author(s). Year. Article title. Journal Title Abbrev. volume number(issue number):inclusive pages

After looking up the article and reading the directions in the guide, you would render it as follows:

CSE STYLE FOR DATASETS

For datasets, see page 6 of the guide above. Try to follow it as closely as possible with the information you have about the dataset.

WHEN YOU WRITE YOUR PAPER....

When you write your paper, see page 7 of the guide; here is the idea, but see that page for the details:

"Within the text of your paper or document, to cite an author’s work (i.e., to paraphrase and acknowledge the source of the information), give the Author(s) last names only and Year. The citation belongs inside a sentence of text, if it is at the end of a sentence, and is often given in parentheses as shown in the examples below. All sources cited in the text of a paper must be included in the list of references and all references must be cited in the text." (p. 7 of above guide)
