This guide was created to help students and instructors learn more about Google's algorithmic practices, how those algorithms impact search results in often problematic ways, and consequently, how those results then shape our perception and understanding of the world in.  With this knowledge, it is our hope that google users can make more aware, mindful information-searching decisions through an understanding of how Google works.

This talk by University of Southern California Professor Safiya Umoja Noble explains the ways in which Google perpetuates racism and sexism through its ostensibly neutral search algorithm.
