Citations: Interpreting, Verifying, and Finding Full Text

Purpose of guide

This guide (a work in progress) is intended for persons using ILL or for staff filling ILL requests or answering reference questions.

It identifies resources that can help if you have:

  • an abbreviation of a journal title but need the full journal title, including details about the journal in which it appeared.
  • a partial citation but need additional details so you can find or order the item via ILL.
  • a full citation but want to find the corresponding full text quickly.
  • questions related to finding find full text for preprints or postprints or conference materials
  • how librarians can help

It also suggests some areas where librarians can help if a citation is really hard to find.

Much of the guide concerns journal articles, but not entirely. For example, there is also coverage of conference proceedings and legal materials.

If you find broken links, or have questions or suggestions, please let Brian Simboli know.
